From an early age, Phil showed a keen interest in brass bands and particularly in the cornet. At the age of 7 and after just a few lessons, Phil joined the local Salvation Army band riding around the northern NSW town of Murwillumbah in a converted ute owned by the local bandmaster (Those were the days!) playing Christmas carols.
Bill was conscripted into the South African Defence Force Reserve in 1964. After the conclusion of his compulsory Military Service he continued on and served his Regiment as Principal Clarinettist and later as Bandmaster.
Leanne Walton first discovered the joy of making music at 5years old, playing tunes on a xylophone with coloured notes and coloured music. Soon this turned into piano lessons and then at 11 years old Leanne began learning the clarinet as part of the school band program.
Our Bands are always looking for new players. We accept new players of any age and ability. There are also plenty of ways to get involved if you are not a player.
